Sanne explains what she does and why

Plant-based, essential for animals… and people

Sanne Timmermans, product developer at Brandenburch, loves animals. From pigs and chickens, to goats, sheep, guinea pigs, and rabbits. You name it, she’s looked after them. Sanne gives all these animals a second chance, so they never come straight from the breeder. And let’s not forget the dogs. There is currently a dog, Aife, who is occasionally given plant-based food. Just like Sanne herself, and with just as much pleasure!

‘At Brandenburch, we have our feet firmly on the ground,’ says Sanne. ‘That’s our motto. What we do, we do well. But we also want to remain realistic. Down-to-earth. We just act normal. I like working with people who do what they say and say what they do. Here it is exactly as it should be. I have been given a lot of opportunities. At Brandenburch, you are given a huge amount of freedom. You are given trust. On top of that, there is a lot of diversity in the things I do. No two days are the same and the work is varied.’

Sanne continues: ‘I came to be doing this quite by chance. Which is quite funny, as I was already a vegetarian when I started working here, and am actually vegan now. Just like the end product we make at Brandenburch: plant based. Indeed, that is one of my motives. Global population continues to grow. Before you can get a piece of edible meat from an animal, you first have to feed it a vast amount of plants. If we humans were to turn that around and start eating more plants ourselves, we could feed many more mouths. Plants are the future.’

‘At Brandenburch, there is no distinction between office staff and factory staff,’ Sanne explains. ‘We each have a job description, but we are actually all all-rounders. The team know one another well and the atmosphere is personal and approachable. Hierarchy is not something we do here. The diversity of the people who work here makes my work a lot more fun. You can really be yourself here. And if, for whatever reason, we’re understaffed, even the management jumps in to work a late shift. That’s the mentality of our team.’

Sanne’s dream for the future: 100% plant-based dog food

‘’There is increasing demand for fully plant-based dog food. A lot of research has been done and some animals actually do better on it, because of allergies that occur when they eat dog food containing animal proteins. And for me, 100% plant-based really is 100% plant-based,’ Sanne says. At Brandenburch, there is no other way, because we work exclusively with high-quality plant-based ingredients.

‘My ideal? I hope we will all – people and animals – eat more consciously i.e. more plant-based food. Every bite is a step in the right direction. If we are to keep everyone well fed, the switch to more plant-based products is essential,’ Sanne concludes.
