Kevin on his experience as a process operator at Brandenburch

From haute cuisine to animal feed

Kevin van Hal swapped his chef’s jacket for a role as process operator at Brandenburch in 2020. With no experience in animal feed or technical work, he stepped into a completely new world. At Brandenburch, they don’t consider your ‘credentials’ as such, what counts is your qualities and motivation and will to work and develop. That is the foundation, the rest will follow.

Kevin says: ‘When I joined Brandenburch, I had absolutely no idea what in the development and production of animal feed involved. I was open to new things and decided to wait and see. This enabled met to to grow, to where I am today. As a process operator and all-round shift leader, I am responsible for starting up the machines, adjusting the production process and solving technical problems.’

‘I have the freedom to do what needs doing, which I like about my job and it gives me confidence. It also brings responsibility and that can make it challenging. In our team, everyone is equal, from operator to manager. Your qualities are appreciated and we really do the work together. My working days are extremely varied. From quiet times when everything runs smoothly, to challenges when my team and I encounter technical problems. It is precisely this variety that ensures my job is never boring. I work in shifts which provides structure but also offers me more time for my private life.’

Working at Brandenburch is a continuous learning process, with new challenges every day. If you are keen to learn, a lot is possible here. For me, the ideal colleague is someone who is eager to learn and motivated to grow themselves, and to improve the company together. I see my future at Brandenburch in a positive light. We make high-quality products and the market is ready for more plant-based food. And although the looks of our company might suggest otherwise, behind that façade is a modern, innovative company.

‘Besides working hard, we also get to enjoy the fun activities. Such as the annual barbecue, various little gifts throughout the year, parties and, of course, the Christmas drinks party, to end the year together. All ways of getting to know your colleagues in a different way.’
